Monday, June 27th 7.30pm All Saints “No Man is an Island”

In association with the Friends of the Plume Library.
Jack Edwards explores the works of the inspiring but complex poet John Donne. The programme includes sonnets and love poetry and features musical settings of his works.
Jack Pethwick Edwards, actor with Penny Manser, soprano.
Jack Edwards’ career has spanned the theatre, dance, opera and TV, appearing in Dr Who, The Mistress of Hardwick and The Music of Mankind. His performanc-es of poetry are particularly acclaimed, having recorded all of Shakespeare’s Sonnets for Hyperion.

Tuesday, June 28th 7pm Saint Roger of Beeleigh

A perambulatory performance telling the story of this local saint, led by Stephen Nunn. The evening takes in Beeleigh Abbey, St Giles Hospital and All Saints Church. The programme includes Gregorian Chant sung by the St Giles Chanters.

Raffaele is possibly the new counter-tenor of the twenty-first century and is already getting a huge following in both this country and around Europe.
A great opportunity to hear him sing this wonderful music here in Maldon. He joins our own St Mary’s choir in Handel’s exciting Roman cantata.

Essex-based pianist, Alasdair Hogarth has been creating quite a splash with his recordings of the works of Stephen Hough; one of them recently featured in Gramophone magazine. The composer writes, “My so-nata for piano is constructed of 16 small sections, each fleeting and inconclusive… the work is not a collection of album leaves– of saplings existing comfortably in their own space– but single branches from a single tree”.

Dvorak’s “Dumky “ trio is the last and best-known of Dvorak’s works for this ensemble and was an immedi-ate success when first performed in 1891. Partnered by one of Schubert’s most popular trios, this young trio of performers are our first piano trio at the Maldon Festi-val of Arts.

Christopher Weston is a firm favourite with Maldon audiences. This is a first chance for them to hear him play a concerto with this professional orchestra formed especially for Maldon Festival of Arts.
This lovely concerto is partnered with some of the most popular string pieces in the repertoire.

St Peter’s Singers have delighted audiences at every Maldon Festival of Arts. This year, they return to close the festival with Listz’s amazing work for chorus and piano in recognition of the composer’s anniversary year. The Bach motets are the apogee of choral music.
