The original Independent Chapel, later Maldon Congregational Chapel and, since 1972, the United Reformed Church, was built in 1696. One of its first ministers was the famous Joseph Billio who was so renowned for his lengthy "fire and brimstone" sermons that he bequeathed several expressions to the English language (Blowing like Billy-o, Moaning like Billy-o, Going like Billy-o).
The current church, on the same site at the top of Market Hill, dates from the nineteenth century and recently underwent extensive refurbishment. It houses a fine Steinway Boston piano, the property of Churches Together in Maldon. For More information about this venue please visit the Maldon United Reformed Church website.
