The company has given a substantial sum to enable us to hire a first-rate concert grand piano for the performance of Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte and Schumann’s Dichterliebe in St Mary’s Church on Saturday, March 20th at 7.30pm. In addition, leading local piano workshop, Empire Pianos of Braintree has made a substantial contribution by arranging a special piano hire and tuning rate for the concert. Essex pianist, Christopher Weston from Great Dunmow (photo and biography attached) dazzled Maldon audiences with his performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations in January. He returns on the 20th to accompany festival director and professional baritone, Colin Baldy. Mr Weston will also be playing Beethoven’s piano sonata in E, Op. 109. Mr Baldy studied under Norman Tattersall and Pamela Bowden at the Colchester Institute in the mid-1970s. This concert marks the final concert in our first ever winter season.
